A

A

Glycerol test: the high sugar content will pull the fluid from the semicircular canals and make hearing better.

During a Menderes disease attack what can we recommend for the pt?

A
Anticholinergics(Atropine) 
Antihistamines (Benadryl)
Anti-emetics (compazine) 
Benzodiazepines (Ativan) 
Corticosteroids 
BEDREST (all the meds plus the attack can cause falls)

A

diuretics
corticosteroids
low Na+ diet
stress reduction

Diet management for menieres disease?

A
  • no sugary/salty foods, canned goods
  • stay hydrated
  • No caffeine (diuretic)
  • eat fresh fruits/veggies
  • no alcohol
  • no MSG
  • potassium if taking a loop diuretic (Thiazide diuretics are K+ sparing)
  • avoid aspirin (may increase tinnitus/dizziness)
