Mxyomatosis lifting restrictions (3x in PQ)

A

killing, death, or recovery of the last diseased animals: 30 days waiting period + strict disinfection (no specific treatment since it’s a virus)

(o Highly recommended to use vaccine as prophylaxis: myxoma + RHD
o Frequency depends on vaccine: 1 for myxoma only given every 6 months, bivalent myxo + RHD also repeat every 6 months but now newer can do once every year
o If outbreak – all flocks should be vaccinated, although private house kept rabbits aren’t obliged to notify that they own pet rabbits, but should advertise)

Myxomatosis infected flock measures

A

Infected flock: diseased or suspected of being diseased animals
o **Movement restrictions: vaccination of healthy animals
• Protection zone: examination of animals, obligatory vaccination of the rabbit flocks (pet rabbits also)
• Diseased, suspected of being diseased: killing, disposal of meat, skin
o Suspected of being diseased animals may be vaccinated:
o Authorization by district veterinary officer
• Suspected of being infected: may be slaughtered **

Official control measures in case of rabbit haemorrhagic disease (minimum q)

A
  • Diseased: movement restrictions, slaughter prohibited; killing the rabbits
    o Proper disposal of carcasses (incineration)
    o Valuable flock: killing ONLY of diseased animals + vaccination of the healthy flock without clinical signs (movement restrictions & vaccination (cover immunisation continually) continued during the next 6 months) !!! * Midterm/EXAM
    • Suspected of being diseased: movement restrictions until confirmation or ruling out
    • Infected or suspected of being infected: oblig vaccination + 15 days of movement restrictions (&
    monitoring)
    • Endangered flocks: obligatory vaccination
    • Movement restrictions:
    o Rabbit, products, anything liable to transmit the contamination
    o Strict disinfection (in high conc e.g. 4% for longer period)
    • Protection zone: authorization for transport of healthy animals to slaughterhouse may be given by
    vet authority
    • Surveillance zone: vaccination, movement restrictions

Infected flock: slaughterhouse
o (direct/indirect contact) Infected rabbit or equipment/material within 60 days KNOW

o Direct or indirect contact within 42 days with Diseased or Suspected D animal
o The obligatory yearly treatment was not carried out in sheep

Official measures with scabies?

A

• D, SD, SC (Diseased, suspected disease, suspected contamination): obligatory treatment
o Sheep:
▪ if < 2 cm wool: 1x
▪ if > 2 cm wool: shearing and 1x or treatment 2x (interval 7-10 days)
o Another species:
▪ 2x ( interval 7-10 days) parallel disinfection of keeping place and equipment (same product) or leave empty for 6 weeks
▪ spot on, pour on, injection, tablets etc.

• Movement restrictions:
o Pasturing, work, changing keeping place only after treatment if no contact with susceptible animals
o Slaughter: only after effective treatment (zoonosis!)
o Raw product: disinfection, wool: separate storing for 6 weeks
o Equipment, buildings: strict disinfection or 6 weeks without contact with animals

o Sheep: if <2 cm wool: 42 days after 1x dipping
▪ If >2 cm wool: 70 days after 2x dipping
