Semester 2 p. 69 - Flashcards
Mxyomatosis lifting restrictions (3x in PQ)
killing, death, or recovery of the last diseased animals: 30 days waiting period + strict disinfection (no specific treatment since it’s a virus)
(o Highly recommended to use vaccine as prophylaxis: myxoma + RHD
o Frequency depends on vaccine: 1 for myxoma only given every 6 months, bivalent myxo + RHD also repeat every 6 months but now newer can do once every year
o If outbreak – all flocks should be vaccinated, although private house kept rabbits aren’t obliged to notify that they own pet rabbits, but should advertise)
Myxomatosis infected flock measures
Infected flock: diseased or suspected of being diseased animals
o **Movement restrictions: vaccination of healthy animals
• Protection zone: examination of animals, obligatory vaccination of the rabbit flocks (pet rabbits also)
• Diseased, suspected of being diseased: killing, disposal of meat, skin
o Suspected of being diseased animals may be vaccinated:
o Authorization by district veterinary officer
• Suspected of being infected: may be slaughtered **
Official control measures in case of rabbit haemorrhagic disease (minimum q)
- Diseased: movement restrictions, slaughter prohibited; killing the rabbits
o Proper disposal of carcasses (incineration)
o Valuable flock: killing ONLY of diseased animals + vaccination of the healthy flock without clinical signs (movement restrictions & vaccination (cover immunisation continually) continued during the next 6 months) !!! * Midterm/EXAM
• Suspected of being diseased: movement restrictions until confirmation or ruling out
• Infected or suspected of being infected: oblig vaccination + 15 days of movement restrictions (&
monitoring)
• Endangered flocks: obligatory vaccination
• Movement restrictions:
o Rabbit, products, anything liable to transmit the contamination

vet authority
• Surveillance zone: vaccination, movement restrictions
Infected flock: slaughterhouse
o (direct/indirect contact) Infected rabbit or equipment/material within 60 days KNOW
