Contagious Bovine pleuropneumonia CBPP Flashcards
Country free from infection of CBPP without intermediate steps (PQ)
• Continuously free from CBPP for at least 10 years and
• No vaccination for at least 10 years;
• No clinical or pathological evidence for at least 10 years;
• Adequate disease surveillance and reporting system;
• Use of laboratory diagnostic procedures capable of differentiating Mycoplasma
mycoides from other bovine Mycoplasma infections
Reestablishing infection free status for CBPP (PQ)
o 2 years from the date of the last case;
o Demonstration that the outbreak did not represent endemic infection and that the
disease has been eradicated by the actions taken
Three stage process declaring previously infected country
• 1) Provisional freedom from disease + 2 years (if comply and still has no disease, get free disease
status)
• 2) Freedom from disease + 2 years
• 3) Freedom from infection
Diagnosis of CBPP
- Clinical signs in the live animals (problem: may be slight or non-consistent; asymptomatic carriers)
- Gross pathological findings (lesions are characteristic but not always obvious)
- Serological tests: may not be specific or sensitive enough
- Culture & ID of the causative organism (difficult if anti-microbial treatment previously used)
- PCR
- Effective meat inspection + lab exams of suspect lesions
Incubation period of CBPP
6 months
