Official Confirmation of CSF
• All the pigs on the holding are killed & their carcasses rendered
• Any material (meat, perm, ova) or waste likely to be contaminated is destroyed, rendered or
processed
• Cleaning & disinfection under official supervision
• Meat of pigs slaughtered during the period between the probable introduction of disease to the
holding & the taking of official measures shall wherever possible be traced & processed under
official supervision
• Epidemiological inquiry
Measures in the surveillance zone of CSF
o A radius of at least 10km
o Census of all holdings
o Prohibition of any movement or transport of pigs
o Cleaning & disinfection
o Removal of pigs from a holding situated in a surveillance or protection zone
is subject of authorisation by the vet authority
Repopulation of a holding affected by the disease CSF
• Minimum 30 days after the completion of the cleaning & disinfection operations
• Open-air holdings: full repopulation may take place only if none of the sentinel pigs has
developed Abs against the virus (test: 40 days)
Confirmation at the slaughterhouse or means of transport CSF
• All susceptible animals present must be killed
• New animals may not be reintroduced until 24 hours after the completion of cleaning and
disinfection operations
• The carcasses, offal and animal waste of possibly contaminated pigs must be processed
under official supervision
