idea person; has idea that needs to be communicated
Encoder
takes the ideas of the source and puts them into some form that someone can understand (speaking or writing); usually the source and encoder are the same person
message code
the form the encoder uses; symbol system used to communicate (a word or language, facial expressions, colors, sounds)
message content
the beginning to the end of the message
message treatment
how something is commincated; reflect style, personality, relations with other person; sometimes treatment and content clash (double bind); more reflective and harder to control therefore more believable
channel
the way we send messges; how messages get to receivers; the channels we chose are important - choose for ease & convienence; can tell something about the message depending on what channel was used; the effectiveness of channels can depend on if personal; some people are better at one channel vs another
decoder
take out of forms and put them into thoughts; reading or listening to someone
reciever
usually the same person as the decoder
