without any distortion (i.e. can’t tell if something is recorded)

opposite of fidelity; interferes with fidelity, causes distortion of the message (i.e. static on the radio)

internal thoughts that interfere with the message getting through (ex/ really hungry so thinking about food instead of class)

external world that interferes with the message getting through (ex/ extreme weather, thinking about how cold it is)
