What is a structed interview?
Made up of pre-determined questions
What is a semi-structured interview?
There is a list of pre-determined questioned but the interviewer can add follow up questions whenever they want
What is an unstructured interview?
There are no predetermined questions. Free flowing conversation
Strengths of a questionnaire?
Cost-effective Quick Lots of data, little effort EZ to analyse EZ statistical analysis
Limitations of a questionnaire?
DC- social desirability bias
Response bias- when ppts tend to answer all the Qs in the same way (e.g. lots of “YES”)
What is good about a structured interview?
EZ to replicate
Reduces differences between interviewers
What is bad about a structured interview?
No elaboration- key detail missed
What is good about an unstructured interview?
Much more flexibility
More detail

Hard to analyse the data
Might be a lot of irrelevant data
What is not good about both interviews and questionnaires?
Social desirability bias
