- strengths - allows access to what people think and feel
- weaknesses - honesty (social desirability bias), exaggeration (low validity), lacks representativeness, lacks generalisability

- strengths - cost effective, easy to replicate, fast, some responses may be given with less hesitation/caution
- weaknesses - responses given may not always be truthful, biased sample

- weaknesses - quality of data collected may not be as high because it is so fixed
