introduction to statistical testing Flashcards
1
Q
what is the sign test?
A
a statistical test used to analyse the difference of scores between related items
2
Q
when do you use the sign test?
A
- repeated measure design or matched pair design
- data is nominal
- test of difference, not correlation
3
Q
how do you carry out the sign test?
A
- find out observed value
- find N (number of ppts)
- compare the observed value with the critical value
- if your observed value is less than or equal to the critical value, you have a significant value and can reject the null hypothesis
4
Q
what should you assume the significance level is if it isn’t given to you?
A
0.05/5%
5
Q
what is probability (p)?
A
refers to the likelihood that certain evens will occur
