A
- a direct way of gathering data, it onvolves directly asking participants their opinon
- can be done via questionaires or interviews
- most valid way of assesing a participant thoughts, feeling and beliefs

A
involves direct verbal questioning by the researcher and vary in terms of how structured the questions are

questionaires
A
- written method of gathering data
- dont necessarily require a researcher to be present
- those who answer questionaire are the repsondents

open questions
A
- dont suggest possible answers, leaves respondent to consider their own answer
- advantage: responses are more valid and meaningfull and is rich data
- disadvantage: different answerr make them difficult to compare and analyse

closed questions
A
- form of fixed choice questions where the respondent is asked to select an answer from two or more choices
- advantage: easy to answer and score
- disadvantage: have limited range of answers (yes/no), lack meaningful data

types of questions: attitude/rating scales
A
- some questionaires use this to collect data instead of open/closed questions
- a statement is used to which the respondent has to agree/disagree to some extent

likert scales
A
- used to attitude scales
- use a statement
- advantages: easy to swap positive to negative statements, quantatative data, reliable measure
- disadvantages: can be repetituous, particiapnts may show social desireability, lack is depth and detail

semantic differential
A
- use polar opposites at each end and particiapnts are required to mark where they fall on the given catagroy

social desirability
A
a type of response bias that is the tendency of survey respondents to answer questions in a manner that will be viewed favourably by others

test-relest
A
the consistency of a measurement when applied multiple times to the same individual, indicating the stability of the scored over time

A
used to asses the internal reliability of a test, splits one test into two sections
