What are th BPS guidelines (responsibility)
valuing the responsibilities of being a psychologist, links to protection of particiapnts and a role of a debrief (mental, physical, psychological)
what are the BPS guidelines (respect)
valuing the dignity and worth of all individuals this links to informed consent, right to withdraw and confidentiality (people are more important than the data)
what are the BPS guidelines (integrity)
valuing honesty, accuracy, clarity anf fairness - links to particular importance of maintaining high standards when decieving particiapants
what are the BPS guidelines (competence)
valuing the continued development as a psychologist and the mantenance of high standards of word (qualified)
confidentiality
particiapnts results and personal information should be kept safe and not released toa nyone outside of the study
privacy
ensures that particiapnts are aware that they dont have to answer anything that may make them feel uncomfortable, cannot observe people in private enviroments
assent
asking children several times throughout the study wether they would stilll like to take part, children can often go along with a study even when they feel uncomfortable
deception
particiapnts should not be deliberately lied to about aim and procedure of study - if they dont know about true aim they need to ensure that there is no harmfull effects
debrief
full explanation of aims and potential consiquences of study - given after experiment is finished
informed consent
having sufficient knowledge about the study - given after experiment is finished
withdraw
particiapnts should be made aware that they can leave at anytime and can remove their data from the study at any time
aviod harming particiapnts mental/physical/psychological harm
particiapnts should leave in the same positive state when they finished the study as when they arrived
