participation- more likely to participate as they are less afraid of failure
self esteem- sports confidence can increase an individual’s belief that they can perform everyday tasks successfully
performance- high sports confidence improves performance as the athlete feels prepared to compete successfully

bandura’s model of self effficacy

A

vicarious experience- watching people succeed who are at same level as you will increase self efficacy

performance accomplishments- past experiences in a similar situation will determine the level of self efficacy that they have

verbal persuasion- s/o can give praise and positive reinforcement to increase self efficacy, by saying you are confident that they will succeed

emotional arousal- emotional state can determine how confident you are in a certain situation so coach should show players how to control arousal levels

successful also increases competitive orientation

outcome= negative- lower state and trait confidence and competitive orientation, may lead to future avoidance behaviour
