Q

What happens when it says ‘My dear lady Anne’?

A

The male dancer turns to face another woman. They both rise to fall forwards with their arms outstretched in second linking. The male uses the momentum to spin the female dancer round so she rests with her back on his right leg, with him in a deep second plie. His hand on her shoulder, her left hand on his arm gazing into each other’s eyes.
- this in combination with the previous lyric suggests the disposability of women in the eyes of the male suitor.
