What happens on the lyric ‘Your mother she’s an heiress’?
- She throws her feather boa over him and he lifts his arms and legs in a running position. As if she’s trying to catch and entrap him
- Shows social commentary of courtship and wealth/entitlement. More varied use of popular dance. Interesting as it seems like she’s more in control here.
What happens on the lyric ‘Don’t play with me, ‘cause you’re playing with fire’?
He points at himself then swings his arms across his body into a flexing muscles position then points at her assertively’ - establishing dominance/peacocking men.
What gesture is repeated in this section?
Male dancer does fist gesture twice and repeats the Rooster gesture (broken wrists in front, pecking head, wing arms, dragging steps with chest forward) - showing peacocking men/ male chauvinism
How is space used?
Entire space is used, they are often in the centre stage - shows how courtship between youth was very prominent in the 60s
What is the costume in this section?
man in the same sort of costume from before the jacket is blue. Woman wears black top with a red and black skirt + red feather boa - represents her wealth as well as mating rituals/courtship
How is the boa used?
she wipes her feather boa on her behind as if teasing him. He then mocks this towards the end by mirroring her movement but more exaggerated.
