What is a central asset tracking system?
This is a system used by different part of the organization to track assets received by the company and track them for the period of their lifetime.
What are the uses of a central asset tracking system?
This tracking system tells us the owner of this asset. (for example this laptop belongs to this person)
Also it tells us the classification of the asset. For example it’s hardware or software.
Inventory of every asset. How many of the asset do we have.
Helps associate assets with different support tickets
Enumeration of the device. It allows us to list the parts of an asset for example a computer may have a (CPU, memory, storage device, keyboard, mouse)
Asset tag. Usually a barcode, RFID, visible tracking number and organization name
What is the purpose of physical destruction?
The purpose of physical destruction is to make sure no one sees the data in this drive again. This is usually done by using a shredder, pulverizer, drill, hammer, or electromagnetic (degaussing) or finally incineration (burn a drive).
What is data retention?
Data retention means saving or backing up data.
Retaining data might be a regulatory compliance, or operation need.
