Section 3A Flashcards
What are the key (3) dimensions of SRV?
SRV is not uni-dimensional- rather it is multi-dimensional
SRV is global (wherever sport is taken seriously)
SRV is affected by social change
What kinds of SRV have been most heavily researched?
Soccer hooliganism and icehockey violence
How have soccer hooliganism and ice hockey violence been studied in sociology?
Figurational approach- used to study crowd disorder and other elements of SRV.
How does Norbert Elias’ “The civilizing process” make sense of SRV?
Our tolerance level (threshold of repugnance) for violence has decreased, control of violence now lies in the hands of the State.

What is committing sociology?
When we try to understand why violence happened rather than seeking to act and punish.
What are the two facets of SRV?
