Key signatures are placed after the clef sign, and before the time signature (if there is one), at thebeginning of every staff.

How are time signatures written?

A
  • time signature is placed after the clef sign and key signature at the beginning of a piece of music, and if the time signature changes, it is written again after the bar line of the measure where it changes.
  • The top number, or beats per measure number, are written directly above the middleline of the staff.
  • The bottom number, or the number for the beat value, is written directly below themiddle line of the staff.
  • Common and cut time symbols are centered on the middle staff line.
