What is section 1 of PACE
Section 1, a constable may exercise any power conferred by this section in any place where the public has access, on payment or otherwise, as of right or by virtue of express or implied permission; to stop, detain and search any persons or vehicle under reasonable grounds for suspecting they will find stolen or prohibited articles such as drugs, weapons, stolen property, fireworks or something that could be used to commit a crime.
What is section 1 (b) of PACE?
Section (1b) a constable may exercise any power conferred by this section in any other place to which people have ready access at the time but which is not a dwelling.
What is section 1 (2) PACE?
A constable may search any person or vehicle or anything which is in or on a vehicle for stolen or prohibited articles. May also detain a person for the search.
Can you conduct a section 1 PACE search on a private dwelling?
If you reasonably believe that they are not allowed to be there and they do not live there.

What is section 60 of the criminal justice and public order act 1994?
Allows an inspector or above to authorise a section 60 to stop and search any persons and vehicles in a specific area where a serious public order problem has taken place. This search is for offensive weapons or dangerous instruments (seize if found). When stopping a vehicle, constable may search vehicle, driver and passenger(s).
Do you need to activate BWV for a stop search?
YES! Every time!
How long can a section 60 of the criminal justice and public order act 1994 last for?
It lasts for 24 hours however an inspector can authorise it to be extended by another 24 hours.
