science Forces,friction,gravity,weight v mass,newtons,1,2,3 Flashcards
what are Forces?
Force = push or pull; described by
strength (N) and direction
Net Force = combining forces
if forces are in the same direction, you
add together to produce a net force.
Unbalanced forces occurs when a net force is
present causing a change in the object’s
motion.
Balanced forces occurs when equal (strength)
forces are acting in opposite directions. The net
force is zero. Balanced forces does not change
the object’s motion.
what is friction?
The forces that two surfaces exert on each other when they rub against each other.
Friction depends on two how hard the two surfaces rub against each other and the type of surfaces.
what is gravity?
is an attractive force between
objects containing mass.
Factors Affecting Gravity:
Mass - amount of matter (atoms) in an object
Distance - length between two points
increase mass ~ increase gravity
increase distance ~ decrease gravity
what is the difference of weight v mass
weight is different from mass because weight is the gravitational pull on an object and mass is the amount of matter in an object.
what are the laws of newton,1,2,3?
Newton’s 1st Law of Motion Inertia: an
object at rest will remain at rest and an
object moving at a constant velocity will
continue moving at a constant velocity,
unless it is acted upon by an unbalanced
force. Gravity and friction are unbalanced
forces.
Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion: acceleration
depends on the object’s mass and the force
acting on the object. So:
Force (N)= Mass (kg) x Acceleration (m/s2)
F=MA and A=F
1N = 1kg·m/s
Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion Action/Reaction : for every
action there is an equal but opposite reaction.
what is mass?
mass is the amount of matter in an object.
what is weight?
weight is the gravitational pull of an object.
