Q

Explain Newton’s 1st Law of Motion

Law of Inertia

A

An object in rest stays at rest, and object in motion stays in motion at a constant in straight line unless acted on by outside, unbalanced force.

Q

What is the difference between balanced force and unbalanced force?

A

Balanced force-the net force of an object is zero and it doesn’t move.
Unbalanced force-when acted on an object after motion,it accelerates.

What is friction?

A

A force that opposes the motion of objects that touch as they move past each other.

6
Q

What are all of the types of frictions?

A

Static-a friction that acts on an object that doesn’t move(strongest)
Sliding-a friction force that opposes the motion of an object as it slides
Rolling- friction that acts on rolling objects, caused by shape at contact

Q

What gravity?

A

The attraction between any two objects due unto their mass. It is also a force that pulls you or and object down to earth’s core.

Q

What is air resistance?

A

Fluid friction acting on an object through air. It’s a force that pulls you or an object upward.

Q

What is terminal velocity?

A

The constant velocity of a falling object when the force of air resistance equals the force of gravity.

Q

Who was Galileo Galilei?

A

He was an Italian scientist that concluded that moving objects not subjected to friction or any other force would continue to move indefinitely. He also experimented to find out about the world.

Q

Who was Aristotle?

A

He was an Ancient Greek scientist and philosopher that made many scientific discoveries through his carful work. He incorrectly proposed that force is required to keep an object moving at a constant speed.

15
Q

What is the difference between mass and weight?

A

Mass-the measure of the interim of an object

Weight-the force of gravity on an object

16
Q

What is Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion

Hint: acceleration

A

An unbalanced force acting on an object causes it to accelerate. Also, acceleration of an object is the same as the direction as the force as is directly proportional with the size of the force. However weight is inverse.

17
Q

What is the equation for acceleration?

A

Acceleration= Net force/Mass

18
Q

What is the the equation fore weight?

A

Weight= Mass • Acceleration

19
Q

How do your mass and weight relate to each other when going from earth to the moon?

A

Your mass always stays the same no matter where you are, but you would weight less on the moon because the moon is smaller therefore less gravity to pull you down.

20
Q

What are two ways acceleration can be increased?

A

By changing the speed,direction,or both.

21
Q

What is Newton’s 3rd Law?

A

Whenever an object releases force on another object, the other object releases the same amount if force that was put on it.
