Ensures players are ready in terms of skill acquisition, technique and mental preparation. Helps players set and each goals. They must be aware of different leadership styles and have good communication.

Designs a dance performance to communicate ideas, concepts and emotions. They need knowledge of techniques and be able to assess performance.

Someone who controls the activity, interprets the rules and checks the equipment.

A scheme who’s main aims are to improve health and achievement of young people.

Covers sex, relationships, drugs and has 5 national curriculum outcomes. It helps children make informed decisions in their life.

What is healthy eating?
Gives children confidence, skills, knowledge and understanding to make healthy food choices. Healthy and nutritious food is offered throughout the entire day.
The school food trust works together to support skills in this area.

What is physical activity?
Offers kids a range of opportunities to be physically active. Kids understand how being physically active helps good health and how it can improve everyday life.

What is emotional health and wellbeing?
Supports vulnerable individuals, establishes anti-bullying policy and behaviour and reward policies. They set up a confidential pastoral support system for all students.

Define vocation
A regular occupation for which you are suited or qualified.
Define amateur
Someone who takes part for enjoyment, train and compete in their own time, and are not paid to take part. Sport is a leisure time activity, not their job.
Define professional
Paid to take part in sport, train and play full time, and devote themselves to the sport. It is their job and they sign contracts, so they must compete when told to.
Define semi professional
Someone who has a job but is also paid to compete. They usually work full time and compete in their spare time. Some only work part time to train and compete more.
Define shamateur
Someone who competes in amateur competitions but receives illegal payments through loopholes such as sponsorship deals, scholarships, exaggerated expenses and a token job.
Define accredited
A recognised standard of award level leading to a high level of learning.
What is BTEC?
Qualification from 2002. Diplomas in sport equivalent to GCSEs or A levels. vocationally based rather than exam based.
What are GCSEs?
They are an important step towards higher education. High passes are needed to study at higher levels.
What is GCE?
Next level of qualification and divided into AS and A2. Points gained is used to apply to university.
What are sport performance awards?
Linked to specific sports, often awarded in schools. Level 1 is open to 14 and up. Level 2 or the Community Sports Leaders Award can then be taken aged 16 and up.
Define proficiency
Being adequately or well qualified.
What are proficiency awards?
Run by NGBs and used to test and reward students. Common ones include the Athletics and gymnastics scheme where students can work towards bronze, silver and gold awards.
