atypical antipsychotic i.e. olanzapine, quetiapine, risperidone

poor prognostic factors for schizophrenia ?
gradual onset low IQ lack of obvious precipitant strong family history prodromal phase of social withdrawal
side effects of clozapine ?
agranulocytosis leukocytosis constipation myocarditis hyper salivation reduced seizure threshold
side effects of atypical antipsychotics ?
hyperlipidaemia sedation weight gain hyperprolactinaemia increased risk of VTE and stroke
ICD diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia ?
present for at least one month -
1 of the following;
- auditory hallucinations
- passivity phenomena
- delusional perception
- thought disorder
and/or 2 of the following;
- persistent hallucinations
- neologisms, breaks in train of though resulting in incoherent or irrelevant speech
- negative symptoms
- catatonic behaviour
