Positive; delusions, hallucinations, change in thoughts or behaviour

Describe some negative symptoms of schizophrenia

A
  • losing motivation/interest in life and activities incl. relationships and sex
  • reduced concentration
  • not wanting to leave house
  • altered sleeping patterns
  • less likely to initiate conversations, less comfortable with people or feeling there’s nothing to say

  • 1 or more of the following for duration 1 month; delusions, hallucinations, negative symptoms i.e. apathy
  • other causes ruled out i.e. bipolar and drug use

A

AKA “disorganised”

Usually develops in 15-25yos

Disorganised behaviours and thoughts, short lasting delusions and hallucinations

May have disorganised speech patterns

Often little emotion in facial expression, voice tone, mannerisms
