What is schizophrenia
A mental disorder that’s disrupts the minds ability to function and it affects thought processes
What are the two types of symptoms associated with schizophrenia and distinguish between them
Positive symptoms and negative symptoms
Positive is an excess of distortion of normal functioning
Negative symptoms are a diminution or loss of normal functioning
Give examples of positive symptoms
Delusions
Disorganised speech
Hallucinations
Disorganised speech or cationic behaviour
What are hallucinations and give types of hallucinations
These are unreal perceptions of a persons environments
Auditory
Visual
Olfactory-smelling of things
Tactile-feelings bugs crawling on oneself
What are delusions and give examples
They are bizarre beliefs that occur due to distorted reasoning or misinterpretation of beliefs
Paranoid
Inflated
What is disorganised speech
This occurs as a result of abnormal thought process in which people can’t organise their speech meaning they speak incoherently or derailment occurs
What is meant by cationic behaviour
This is characterised by things like aimless arm movement
What is meant by grossly disorganised
It’s the inability to start a task or finish it
