frequency
haematuria
bladder calcification
what can be seen in X-ray of Schistosoma haematobium?
calcification of the egg clusters of bladder
Management Schistosoma haematobium?
single oral dose - praziquantel
Schistosoma mansoni and Schistosoma japonicum clinical features
worms mature in the liver - then travel through the portal system to inhabit the distal colon.
Presence in the portal system can lead to progressive hepatomegaly and splenomegaly due to portal vein congestion.
therefore complications of Schistosoma mansoni and Schistosoma japonicum
lead to complications of liver cirrhosis,
variceal disease
and cor pulmonale.
what is heavily elevated in schistosomiasis ?
eosinophils
