Scales Of Production Flashcards
What is one-off production? How long can it take for the product to be produced? How much do they cost? Give an example.
One-off production is when one product is created. It can be intricate or it can be a prototype, so it can take a long time to produce. They can be very expensive. An example is a statue.
What is batch production? Give an example.
It is when identical products are made at the same time in small or large quantities. An example could be a piece of furniture like a stool.
What is mass production? How much does the product cost? Give an example.
Mass production is when a product goes through an assembly line to be produced. It’s often produced in large numbers for days or weeks. The product is generally less expensive. An example is a car.
What is continuous production? How much does the product cost? Give an example.
It is where a product is produced 24/7 over a period of hours, days or years. The product is inexpensive. An example is a brand of supermarket processed foods.
What is ‘just in time’ production?
It involves the arrival of products when they are needed at the assembly line. It saves warehouse space, but if it doesn’t arrive in time the production can be halted, costing a lot of money.
