To give information about processes and tools in 2D, so that the important details are shown.

Applying colour, texture and shade to a solid object to make it look realistic.
What is an isometric sketch?
An isometric sketch shows 3D objects with horizontal lines drawn at 30 degrees to the base line.
What is an oblique sketch?
An oblique sketch shows 3D objects without needing horizontal lines to be drawn at 30 degrees to a baseline.
What is an exploded joint?
An exploded joint is a diagram showing the parts of the joint separated out for clarity.
What is a cross - sectional view?
A cross -sectional view shows a cut away of a diagram. For example, it can show a fitting.
