Wooden I Beams?
- resemble steel I beams on smaller scale
- top/bottom chord- 2”x4”
- web-very thin plywood
- beams are lengths up to 56 feet
- typical 26 foot beam weighs less than 50 pounds
- holes drilled-weaken beams
- AS SOON AS IT BEGINS TO BURN, BEAM BEGINS TO LOSE STRENGTH
- should be put into CIDS
- once covered by ceiling and /or floors, wooden i beams cannot be detected
SB-79
Fire in Air Bag equipped Car:
use NORMAL FF PROCEDURES
Air bag designed to inflate if vehicle fire causes CANISTER to be heated above?
300 degrees F
-should be NO fragmentation of canister
If unsure whether vehicle has air bag?
keep out of DEPLOYMENT PATH
Air Bag deployed:
- normal rescue/medical procedures
- DEPLOYED AIR BAGS ARE NOT DANGEROUS
- may have some dust causing minor skin/eye irritation (wash hands after incident)
Incident with undeployed air bag:
- UNLIKely to deploy AFTER CRASH
- Stay away from DEPLOYMENT path
if someone is PINNED directly BEHIND and UNDEPLOYED AIR BAG?
-DO NOT CUT or mechanically displace STEERING COLUMN until after system is fully deactivated
-TRY : A. moving seat to the rear and lowering the seat back
B. CUT ONLY STEERING WHEEL (NOT COLUMN)
- do NOT place body or tools in deployment path*
- do not cut into air bag module
- do not apply heat in the area of the steering wheel nut
All air bag units operating on electrical impulse have ___?
TIME DELAY-ELECTRICAL STORAGE CAPACITOR
-this energy would immediately be able to inflate air bag
Only method of DEACTIVATING AIR BAG?
-DISCONNECT VEHICLE BATTERY early in the incident and allow time necessary for stored energy to discharge
could be 1 second to 30 minutes (depending on car type )
**MECHANICALLY activated system CANNOT be deactivated ** (1990 Jaguar)
