SARS CoV Flashcards
Where in the body can we find ACE2?
Nose, heart, gut, and lungs
Function of ACE2
Its activities and cellular interactions control wound repair, inflammation, and blood pressure
Where does SARS-CoV spike protein bind with high affinity?
ACE2 10-20x higher
The function of Angiotensin 1+2 and ACE 1+2
Angiotensin 1 gets converted to Angiotension 2 by ACE-1 -> too much ACE-1 causes too much conversion of Angiotensin 1 ->edema, tissue damage, inflammation
Angiotensin 2 binds to ACE-2 and gets removed -> too much Angiotensin 2 cause damage
ACE-2 promotes validation, and protection and stops fibrosis (thickening of tissue)
What is the effect of SARS-CoV on ACE2
Too much Angiotensin 2 causes damage to blood vessels and tissue injuries -> so Angiotensin 2 (converted from Angiotensin 1 by ACE-1) gets removed by ACE-2
SARS-CoV blocks ACE-2 -> so ACE-2 cant remove Angiotensin 2 anymore -> Angiotensin 2 builds up and causes damage
