- women
- 20-40y
- afro-caribbean descent
pathophysiology of sarcoidosis
Immune system ‘overreacts’ causing granulomas to form in different organs of the body
symptoms of sarcoidosis
- Fever
- fatigue
- dry cough
- dyspnoea
- uveitis
- Lupus pernio (purple rash/nodules on cheeks and shins - seen in chronic sarcoidosis)
3 investigations for sarcoidosis
- bloods
- chest x ray
- biopsy - diagnostic
what do bloods for sarcoidosis show
raised ACE and Ca+
what does chest x ray for sarcoidosis show
bilateral hilar adenopathy + pulmonary infiltrates
what does biopsy for sarcoidosis show
NON caseating granulomas
how to treat early stages of sarcoidosis
In early stages can be self resolving
how to treat symptomatic sarcoidosis
corticosteroids
what is Lofgren syndrome
a subset of sarcoidosis
triad of:
1. fever
2. erythema nodosum
3. bilateral hilar adenopathy
