What is sarcoidosis?
Multisystem chronic inflammatory condition
What does SARCOID stand for?
Skin Arthritis Respiratory Cardiac Ocular Intracranial Derangement of liver and renal function
What skin problem is present?
Erythema nodosum
What respiratory problems are present?
Bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy, pulmonary infiltrates
What cardiac problems are present?
Heart block, VT, HF
What ocular problem is present?
Anterior uveitis
What intracranial problems are present?
Chronic meningitis, seizures, neuropathy
What liver/renal problems are present?
Hepatic granuloma, hypercalcaemia
What is Lofgren syndrome?
An acute form of sarcoidosis with BHL, erythema nodosum and arthralgia
What blood results would you expect?
Raised ESR, raised serum ACE
What would you see on hisotlogy?
Non-caseating granulomas
How do you do a bone profile?
Calcium, corrected calcium, albumin, total protein and alkaline phosphatase
What imaging would you do?
A CXR
Where would you biopsy?
Transbronchial
How do you treat stages I-III?
Remission likely
