Choosing participants without any awareness or bias

Advantage - Usually produces a representative sample
Disadvantage - Still a chance an unrepresentative sample can be randomly chosen

Choosing participants and categorising them into groups based on characteristics

Advantage - Provides more depth into sub groups
Disadvantage - Difficult and takes time
Define Opportunity Sampling
Recruiting participants who are available at the time

Advantage - Easy to obtain
Disadvantage - Not everyone has an equal chance at being chosen
Define Volunteer Sampling
When participants self-select themselves to take part
