A

How to perform precipitation?

A

Add reactant 1 into a beaker. Pour reactant 2 in excess and constantly stir until no more precipitate forms. Filter and collect the impure precipitate. Wash the precipitate with a small amount of distilled water to remove any impurities. Allow to dry on a sheet of filter paper.

How to perform acid + excess base?

A

Add reactant 1 into a beaker. Pour an excess of reactant 2 and constantly stir until no more of reactant 2 dissolves in the acid. Filter to remove the excess unreacted reactant 2. Collect the filtrate and heat until it is saturated. Allow the saturated solution to cool for crystallization to take place. Filter to collect the crystals and wash with a small amount of distilled water to remove any impurities. Allow to dry between a few sheets of filter paper.

How to perform titration?

A

Pipette 25.0cm^3 of reactant 2 base into a conical flask. Fill a burette with reactant 1 acid. Read and record the burette reading(V1). Add 1 or 2 drops of methyl orange indicator into the conical flask. It should turn yellow. Slowly add in reactant 1 until the solution turns orange. Read and record the burette reading(V2). The difference between V2 and V1 is the amount of acid required for complete neutrallization.

Repeat the steps without adding the indicator. The same amount of reactant 1 and reactant 2 should be used. Heat the solution until it is saturated. Allow the saturated solution to cool for crystallization to take place. Filter to collect the crystals and wash with a small amount of distilled water to remove any impurities. Allow to dry between a few sheets of filter paper.
