Measurement and Experimental Techniques. Flashcards
What is a beaker used for?
A beaker is used to estimate the volume.
What is a measuring cylinder used for?
It is used to measure the volume accurate to the nearest cm3.
What is a burette used for?
A burette is used to measure volumes accurate to 0.1cm3.
What is a pipette used for?
It is used to measure a fixed volume of 25cm3 accurate to 0.1cm3.
When can upward delivery be used?
It can be used if the gas is soluble in water and less dense than air.
What are examples of gases that can be used for upward delivery?
NH3 and H2.
When can downward delivery be used?
It can be used if the gas is soluble in water and denser than air.
What are examples of gases that can be used for upward delivery?
Cl2 and HCl.
When can displacement of water be used?
It can be used if the gas is insoluble in water or slightly soluble.
What are examples of gases that can be used for displacement of water?
CO2, H2 and N2.
