venereal–> polyarthiritis–> reduce fertility in stallion/abortion or death of foal in 2-3 days/ polyarthiritis

18
Q

S.typhimurium var copenhagen pigeons CS

A

anorexia, weight, diarrhea, limping, cannot fly, breeding difficulty, apathic, PUPD, mortality
acute paratyphus- breeding
chronic paratyphus- one wing hanging down, intermittent secretion

19
Q

S.typhimurium var copenhagen pigeons

A

specific clonal lineage
PT2 and 99
carriers cause spread

culture/ rapid spread agglutination for Ab
antimicrobials
immune therapy hygiene
inactivated vaccine reduces severity does not prevent
hygiene

21
Q

S.typhimurium in passieriformes (perching bird) and Psittaciformes (parrot) CS

A

apathic, decreased food and water intake

22
Q

S.typhimurium in passieriformes (perching bird) and Psittaciformes (parrot)

A
bird houses
stress
overcrowding
cold/humid
inappropriate feed
23

younger animals
<3 weeks
chicken, turkey, peasant

24
Q

S. gallinarum (poultry)

REPORTABLE

A

older animals

chickens, ducks, pheasant, quail, partridge, turkey

25
Q

Dx and Tx S. pullorum (poultry)
antigenically
REPORTABLE

A

horizontal and vertical transmission
dx- culture, serology
only for hobby poultry, antibiotics

26
Q

Dx and Tx S. gallinarum (poultry)

REPORTABLE

A

serology is cross reactive with S.pullorum

27
Q

S. gallinarum (poultry) CS

REPORTABLE

A

fowl typhoid: hyeracute mortality and hemolytic anemia

mortality up to 30%

28
Q

S.enterica ssp arizonae

A

younger animals mortality up to 50%
mainly USA
Dx/Tx: culture, eradication, control by serology
difficult because of different serotypes

29
Q

S. enteriditis

A

paratyphoid
zoonotic- egg contamination
used to be most frequent serotype for zoonotic infection until vaccination
eggs from +ve flocks used after heating

30
Q

other serotypes
paratyphoid
zoonotic

A

no CS
USA uses bleach for contamination
Remediation in+ flock
30% of broilers and 80% of slaughter
