Q

Discuss the parasympathetic innervation to the salivary glands - secretomotor to produce saliva

A

Preganglionic Sympathetic fibres travel to the submandibular ganglion from the chorda tympani via the lingual nerve.

Postganglionic parasympathiec fibres then travel in the lingual nerve to the submandibular gland to the sublingual gland or travel directly to the submandibular and sublingual gland not in a nerve

Q

What are the two innervation of the minor salivary glands and how can we differentiate

A

All glands above the level of the oral fissure are innervated by the greater petrosal nerve

All glands below level of oral fissure innervated by chorda tympani cn7
