What are its classifications?
-Bronchodilator
-Sympathomimetic B-2 agonist
What are its Mechanisms of Action?
-Selective B-2 stimulation allows for smooth muscle retention of the Bronchioles. Also has some B-1effects, causing an increased HR
When is it indicated for use?
-Bronchoconstriction (wheeze) with Shortness of Breath
When is it Contraindicated for use?
-Hypersensitivity
-Ischemic Chest pain (relative)
What are the dosages? hint Half to get to ped/inf
A: 5.0mg aerosol
400-600mcg (4-6puffs via
MDI
P: 2.5mg aerosol
200-300mcg (2-3puffs via
MDI
I: 1.25mg via aerosol
What side effects does it have?
-Hypertension
-Tachycardia
-Muscle cramps
-Dry nose and throat
-Headaches
What precautions should be taken?
Patients with Pulmonary Edema (cardiac in origin)
