A

Tyre condition

A

Uneven wear can be caused by faults in the braking system, suspension or tracking. If the front wheels are unbalanced, they could make the car vibrate.

Tread must be 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre

Tyre pressures

A
Check at least once a week, when the tyres are cold. 
Under-inflated tyres can: 
Make the steering feel heavy 
Increase fuel consumption 
Increase your stopping distance

Dry steering

A

When you turn the steering wheel while the car isn’t moving- it can cause unnecessary wear to the tyres and steering mechanism

ABS

A

Anti lock braking system- should go out when the car is travelling at 5-10mph

Brake fade

A

When the brakes become less effective because of overheating.

This may happen if you use them continuously- such as on a long, steep downhill stretch of road. Use a lower gear to help you control the vehicles speed

Parking safely

A

Avoid parking where your car would block access or visibility for others, such as:

Infront of a property entrance

Brow of a hill- limited view

A

Mechanism that gives a quick acceleration when needed, for example to overtake.

Excessive use of this will burn more fuel. Eco safe

Red lines on the side of the road- restrict stopping on these routes to help traffic flow
