Vehicle registration certificate (V5C) contains:
The vehicle, including make, model, engine size and year of registration
The registered keeper
Before you can legally drive, you must:
Check that your vehicle excise duty (road tax) has been paid on the car you are driving
Hold a valid driving license
Have valid insurance cover
Ensure the vehicle you’re diving has a valid MOT certificate
You must inform the DVLA when you change:
Your vehicle
Your name
Your permanent address
Insurance
You must have at least third- party insurance. This covers: Injury to another person Damage to someone else's property Damage to other vehicles
Penalty of 5000 pounds
Documents
If a police officer asks to see your documents and you don’t have them, you can produce them at a police station within seven days.
MOT
Makes sure your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards.
Cars more than 3 years old must have an MOT test.
MOT certificates are valid for one year.
