Using your lights

(Your car horn must not be used between 11:30pm-7am)

To show other users that you’re there

You should use your handbrake at night in traffic as your foot brake lights make dazzle the vehicle behind you
Tailgating
Driving too closely behind another vehicle.

Very dangerous and could cause an incident if the vehicle stops suddenly

Good, dry conditions- 2 seconds gap
Wet weather conditions- 4 seconds gap

Zebra crossing
Be ready to slow down and stop
Be patient if they cross slowly
Don’t encourage them to cross by waving or flashing your headlights- there may be another vehicle coming

Give way to pedestrians on the crossing
Don’t move off until the crossing is clear
Puffin crossing
Electronically controlled- sensors ensure that the red light shows until the pedestrian has safely crossed the road.
Steady Amber light (like traffic light)

Similar to puffin crossings but allow cyclists to cross at the same time as pedestrians
