what is obsteric history?
obsteric history- what hospital they are at. how many weeks pregnant? any information notes from the midwife/
what would you ask a pregnant woman in previous history?
any history of:
hypertension.
any history of epilepsy?
diabetic?
asthma?
what is past obsteric history?
how many pregnancies have they got?
any complications with any pregnancies?
what questions would you ask about current pregancy?
how many weeks.
due date
how many babies
any issues
any concerns
what are the 3 stages of labour?
The first stage is the dilation of the cervix,
the second stage is the birth of the baby,
and the third stage is the delivery of the placenta.
what is post partum hemorrhage?
heavy bleeding after birth. primary is wben they loose 500ml or more within the first 24 hours
secondary is when there is abnormal vaginal bleeding between 24 hours-12 weeks after birth
symptoms of post partum haemorrhage?
uncontrolled bleeding. hypotension, tachycardia, swelling and pain in the vaginal area
what is the treatment for post partum haemorrhage
TXA (treats bleeding)
misoprostol
fluids for hypotension
what is placenta abruption?
the placenta becomes detached from the uterine wall resulting in blood loss in the retro- placenta from the urine wall
what are the signs of placenta abruption?
vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, back pain, uterine tenderness.
what treatment do you give for placenta abruption?
pain relief, fluids for hypotension and treat the hypovolemia accordingly.
what is placenta previa?
an abnormally sited placenta which lies down in the uterus and partially or wholly occluded the opening of the cervix
what are the signs of placenta previa?
severe hemorrhage,
unlikely to have pain,
what is preeclampsia?
Preeclampsia is high blood pressure and signs of liver or kidney damage that occur in women after the 20th week of pregnancy
disorder of widespread vascular endothelial malfunction and vasospasm that occurs after 20 weeks gestation
what are signs of preecampsia?
severe headache, changes in vision, upper abdominal pain, nausea and vommiting, decreased urine output, shortness of breath
