what is a head tilt chin lift
tilt the patients head back by pushing down on the forehead. place the tips of your index and middle fingers under the chin and pull up. this lifts the tongue away from the pharynx and improves airway.
what does a jaw thrust do?
lifts the tongue along with the mandible, thus relieving upper airway obstruction.
how do you use a NPA?
identify the right size by measuring the tip of the patients nose to the earlobe.
lubricate the end of the NPA.
advance the airway carefully following its natural curvature until the flange rests against the nostrils
what size npa should have a female or short male have?
size 6
what size npa should a tall female or average sized male have?
size 7
what size npa should a tall male have?
size 8
how do you insert a OPA?
identify the correct opa by measuring from the centre of the incisors to the angle of the jaw with an opa.
insert the opa ensuring the concave of the adjunct is facing the roof of the mouth.
once a third of the opa has been inserted, rotate 180 degrees in adults.
what is a endotracheal intubation?
a flexible tube that is cuffed at one end that sits in the trachea to aid in ventilating a patient when a patient can not protect the airway.
what is a capnography?
Capnography is the monitoring of the concentration or partial pressure of carbon dioxide in the respiratory gases.
