what observations as a paramedic do you need to carry out?
blood pressure, blood glucose, 12 lead ecg, oxygen saturations, temperature
what is cap refill?
determining if the patients have good or bad blood flow.
how do you do a cap refill?
press your finger on the patients nail bed and wait 10 seconds. wait till it turns white and release the pressure, count the number of seconds before it turns pink. under 2 seconds is normal.
what does avpu stand for
alert, voice, pain, unresponsive.
what does gcs stand for? and what does it do?
Glasgow coma scale. describe the extent of impaired consciousness in all types of acute medical and trauma patients.
what are the 3 things that gcs covers?
eye, verbal and motor response.
what is classed as a mild gcs score and a severe gcs score?
13-15 and 3-8.
what is a peak flow?
simple measurement of how quickly you can blow air out of your lungs.
when will you carry out a peak flow?
to help monitor and diagnose asthma
what is the average resp rate?
12-20
what is a low resp rate?
under 12
what is a high resp rate?
over 20
what is the average blood pressure? a hypo and hyper bp.
100-120 average
under 90 hypo
130 hyper
average pulse, low and high?
60-100 average
under 60- low
over 100 high
blood glucose average, low and high.
4-8 average
under 4 is low.
over 9 is high
what is average temp. what is hypothermia and what is hyperthermia?
36.5-37.
hypo- below 35
hyper is about 37.8
what are the oxygen saturations average?
94-100%
what is the resp rate for a child under 12.
should be higher. between 16-50.
What are average low and high keystones?
Normal- 0.6 and lower
0.6-1.5 means your at risk of DKA (severe lack of insulin in the body)
