SACROILIAC JOINT Flashcards
SI MARCHING TEST
Pt standing
Palpate PSIS
One thumb on PSIS, other parallel on sacrum (on side of raised leg)
Pt stand on one leg while pulling opposite leg to chest
SI MARCHING TEST - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
SI or pubic joint strain/fracture
Hypermobility
Joint dysfuction
Ipsilateral SIJ dysfunction
SI MARCHING TEST - POSITIVE TEST
Localised pain (SI or pubic joint strain/fracture)’
Excess motion (hyper mobility/joint dysfunction)
Decreased ROM (ipsilateral SIJ dysfunction)
FLAMINGO
Pt stand on one leg
Can ask pt to hop to increase symptoms
FLAMINGO - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
Ipsilateral SIJ dysfunction
FLAMINGO - POSITIVE TEST
Localised pain
Pain in pubis symphysis/SIJ = lesion in whichever structure is painful
GLAESLEN’S
Screening test
Pt supine on edge of couch
Pt holds leg towards chest
Pt drops other leg off couch
Apply pressure to knee and flexed leg (produces shearing of SIJ)
GLAENSLEN’S - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
SIJ strain
SIJ instability
Iliopsoas contracture
Lsp or hip pain origin
GLAESLEN’S - POSITIVE TEST
Sacroiliac or anterior thigh pain (SIJ sprain/instability)
Elevation of extended hip (iliopsoas contracture)
No SIJ pain (lumbar or hip pain origin)
THIGH THRUST
Pt supine
Bend pt leg (side that’s furthest away from you)
Place hand under sacrum/SIJ (in-between pt legs)
Apply force down through knee and hip
THIGH THRUST - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
SIJ pathology
Hip pathology
THIGH THRUST - POSITIVE TEST
Pain in SIJ
Pain in hip
SIJ COMPRESSION
Pt laying on side
Find ASIS + PSIS/greater trochanter and apply contact medially
Apply force straight down through pelvis
SIJ COMPRESSION - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
SIJ posterior ligaments
SIJ fracture
SIJ dysfunction
SIJ instability
SIJ COMPRESSION - POSITIVE TEST
Posterior localised pain (SIJ posterior ligaments, fracture, SIJ dysfunction)
Decreased posterior pain (SIJ instability)
