HIP Flashcards
SCOUR (QUADRANT TEST)
Pt supine
Flex hip to 90 + flex knee
Rotate leg round in quadrant shape
If no pain, apply pressure through knee/femur and repeat
SCOUR - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
Hip joint pathology
osteoarthritis
Capsulitis
Labral tear
Acetabular impingement
SCOUR - POSITIVE TEST
Increased local pain
Crepitus
FABER
Pt supine
Flexion, abduction, external rotation of leg
Rest foot on couch to start
Move foot to shin if no pain
Move foot to thigh if still no pain
Apply pressure to knee and stabilise opposite hip if still no pain
FABER - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
Hip joint pathology
Osteoarthritis
Sprain/strain
Tight hip adductors
FABER - POSITIVE TEST
Increased local pain
Inability to perform test
Test leg remaining above straight leg
FADIR
Pt supine
Hold pt leg so knee is flexed
Flex, adduct and internally rotate leg
If no pain apply pressure through knee
FADIR - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
Anterior-superior impingement syndrome
Anterior laboral tear
Iliopsoas tendinitis
FADIR - POSITIVE TEST
Pain and reproduction of symptoms
POSTERIOR LABRAL TEAR TEST
Pt supine
Hip into full flexion, adduction and internal rotation as starting position
From this position extend the hip while maintaining the Adduction and internal rotation
POSTERIOR LABRAL TEAR TEST - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
Labral tear
Anterior hip instability
Posterior-inferior impingement
POSTERIOR LABRAL TEAR TEST - POSITIVE TEST
Decreased local pain
TRENDELENBURGS SIGN
Pt standing
Pt raises one leg so they are standing on one leg
Normally the pelvis on opposite side should raise
TRENDELENBURGS SIGN - WHAT DOES IT TEST?
Ability of the hip adductors to stabilise the pelvis on the femur
TRENDELENBURGS SIGN - POSITIVE TEST
Dropping of pelvis on opposite side indicates weak gluteus medius or an unstable hip on the standing side
