What is physical health?
most obvious dimension of health
Concerned with the mechanistic functioning of the body
What is mental health?
Ability to think clearly and coherently
What is emotional health?
Ability to recognise and express them appropriately
Coping with stress, anxiety and depression
What is social health?
Ability to make and maintain relationships with others
We could try to make more of the elderly socialise to help their health
What is spiritual health?
Personal creeds, principles of behaviour, peace of mind and being at peace with oneself i.e religious beliefs and practices
What is societal health?
Health of an individual is related to everything around them
Can’t be healthy if denied food, clothing, shelter and human rights
How might all of the elements of health affect your engagement with health promotion?
Not always going to remember all the other aspects if your grounded in one element of health
Spiritual and physical must both be acknowledged
Eating well and being physically healthy is needed to be spiritually healthy
But being physically well it may require helping to improve their spiritual health
Health professionals involve filling in health elements missing

Stage and availability of education Employment Daily routine Age i.e. immunity Gender Media Resources you have access to Environment Race Ethnicity Genes Height Innate characteristics/personality Relationships family & friends with security and self-belief, friends can be sensible or more reckless Climate Democracy/dictatorship Political environment i.e. if bombed to pieces Natural disasters Country Economic environment Pre-conceived stereotypes Taboos/stigmas Allergies result of environment Natural microbes Era of birth/life i.e. health promotion etc…
