S Subsidiary Airframe Structures Flashcards
What are the 3 subsidiary airframe structures?
- Floor
- Doors
- Windows
What supports the floor?
Aluminium alloy cross beams
What are floor panels made of?
Light alloy or composite
When would a floor need to be strengthened?
For large transport aircraft carrying freight
What do floors contain to equalise pressure between levels?
Vents and blow out panels which reduce the impact of a rapid depressurisation
What is a door?
An opening hinged on a vertical side
What is a hatch?
An opening hinge on their top or bottom sides
On small unpressurised aircraft what type of door is used?
Hinged on the forward edge and swing outwards and forwards, airstream holds the door closed in flight
What is a plug door?
A door with tapered edges which fits into a sealed door frame
When are you unable to open a plug door?
When the cabin is pressurised
How does a plug door open?
Initially inwards then swings outwards
What is the disadvantage of plug doors?
Impossible to open in the event of an emergency
What is the advantage of a plug door?
Impossible to open when the aircraft is pressurised
What do doors which hinge outwards require?
Complex latching and locking
What direction do emergency hatches open?
Up and outwards
