What are the Six Articles of Faith?
Angels-communicate the message of God to humans.
Tawhid- God is one “Allah”
Holy books- The Quran is the most important writing and highest authority in Islam.
Prophets- Muhammad “highly praised” is the most important prophet of God.
Supremacy of God’s will- God knows but also makes happen everything that occurs in humans lives.
Day of Judgement- when all humanity will be judged by God and sent to paradise or hell.
What are the Five Roots of ‘Usul ad-Din?
Prophethood (Risalah)- accepting Muhammad is Gods last prophet, Gods revelations through him are true.
Justice of God (Adalat)- God is just and wise, cannot do wrong, holds humans accountable for their actions.
Tawhid- God is one, God is not made up of different persons.
The Imamate- accepting that the twelve Imans are the leaders of Islam and the guard of truth of the religion without error.
Resurrection- Shi’a- after death they will be resurrected to be judged by God.
Give two beliefs that are shared by Sunni and Shi’a Muslims. (2 marks)
Sunni and Shi’a Muslims believe that God is one and is not made up of different persons.
Sunni and Shi’a Muslims believe that after death they will be resurrected and judged by God. They will be either be sent to heaven or hell.

Three examples of Angels in Islam?
Jibril – revealed the Qur’an to Muhammad
Mikail – angel of mercy who controls the weather and nourishes the earth
Israfil – will blow the trumpet to announce the Day of Judgement
What are the roles of Angels? (4 points)
Beings of light, servants of God
- Human acts are watched and recorded by angels
- Will escort people to paradise or hell on the Day of Judgement
- Muslims look from side to side at the end of each prayer to greet the angels
-Act as messengers to the prophets
Explain two ways that a belief in angels may influence Muslims today. (4 marks)
- It influences Muslims to live according to God’s law / this means that they will follow the laws set
out in the Qur’an / eg Following the Five Pillars as they believe that angels are recording their
deeds / ‘Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it)’
(50:18). - They will avoid sins and those things that Qur’an prohibits / eg lying, stealing and committing shirk
as the angel on the left shoulder will write down all the bad deeds that humans commit / ‘This Our
Record speaks about you with truth. Verily, we were recording what you used to do.’ (45:29). - The angel Izrail will take the soul of a human / this belief may keep a Muslim disciplined in their
daily activities.
What are some beliefs about Predestination?
Everything that happens is according to God’s will
BUT humans are still free
God KNOWS our actions but he does not DECIDE our actions
God can only judge fairly if people did their actions freely
What do Sunni Muslims believe about Predestination?
Some Sunni Muslims believe that God does predestine everything that happens, but this just means that it is even more important to trust in God and follow his commands

What are the beliefs about death in Islam?
-Death is not the end but the beginning of a new stage of life called Akhirah.
-After death Muslims has a conscious existence in their grave.
What is the wait after death for Muslims called? What happens?
-The wait is called “Barzah” which means “barrier”.
-As they lie on their grave, God sends two angels to question them of their faith.
-If people deny God, they will have to see the punishments
-Punishments will start right away
-People will sleep in their graves until the end of the world when the Day of Judgement will come.

-Adam was the first man on earth

-God gave Adam understanding and the names of all things
What happened in Prophethood Adam?
-God asked Adam to tell the angels the names of some objects that they did not know but he did
-Iblis refused to bow down to Adam
-His defiance meant he was thrown out of paradise
-God created Hawwa to prevent Adam from being lonely
-Adam is important as a prophet because God gave him understanding
-God revealed the food that Muslims are allowed to eat, how to repent for wrongdoing, how to bury the dead
What is the story about Ibrahim?
Ibrahim wanted to know who made the sun and stars
-There was a feast by the river, and he saw his opportunity
-He took an axe and destroyed the idols in the temple apart from the largest ones
-He left the axe tied around the neck of the statue
-People returned and were angry
-Ibrahim said the biggest statue had destroyed the rest
-People wanted Ibrahim to be burnt alive
-Ibrahim was thrown into a fire
-A miracle occurred- the fire only burnt the chains, and he walked out unscratched
-He began to follow God
