when will you know if canine is potentially ectopic
A
if not palpable in buccal sulcus by 10-11
- radiograph before 10-11 pointless

when do interceptive
A
- not severe displaced
- 10-13 years
- maintain or create space
- give 12 months to see if works

when do surgical exposure ortho alignment?
A
- not suitable interceptive
- pt willing wear fixed appliance
- pt well motivated good dental health
- ortho alignment possible with malposition
- success decreases with age

when surgical removal of palatally ectopic canine
A
- pt declines and happy with appearance
- early root resorption adjacent incisors
*if severe then XLA incisor and ortho allign canine - good contact between 2 and 4
- evaluate possible risk of surgery to other teeth first

when transplantation
A
- not until other tx considered or failed
- pt unwilling to wear appliances
- or malposition too bad
- adequate space for 3 and sufficient alveolar bone to accept new tooth
- no akylosis of canine
- more than 3/4 of root complete then transplanted canine may need RCT within 10 days after

when no active tx?
A
- pt happy dont’ want tx
- no evidence of resorption or other pathology
- good contact 2 and 4
- or ‘c’ good prognosis
- severely displaced paltal canine can be left in situ
- examine regulalry
