3) explain histopathology
4) explain cyst content
5) treatment
A
5) Treatment generally by simple enucleation & removal of assc. tooth
2
Q
explain dentigerous cyst
A
- Most common developmental odontogenic cyst and form 20% of all odontogenic cysts
- Embrace all/part of crown of unerupted tooth, attaching at CEJ
- Lined by epithelium derived from Reduced Enamel Epithelium (REE)
-REE from Enamel Organ - Most frequently with impacted mandibular third molars
- Treatment often cyst enucleation with associated tooth or marsupialisation if large

Q
explain odontogenic keratocyst
A
- Third most common odontogenic cyst (after radicular and dentigerous)
-12% of all cysts occurring in maxillofacial region - Arises from Cell Rests of Serres
-Originates from remnants of dental lamina - Unusual growth pattern with high risk of recurrence
-Enlarges in anterior-posterior direction
-Can reach large size without causing gross bony expansion
